Trauma and CHEEZE - Part 1

Trauma due to violence is a very complex issue in our communities.  Learning of the life and tragic death of 17 year old Damian Martinez, aka CHEEZE, aka LOVE, gives this trauma  a face, mainly those of his grieving family and friends. The following photos are presented to bring attention to a need for more mental health and grievance counseling in the community of Hunts Point in the South Bronx, where persistent incidents of violence are seldom met with the appropriate levels of support for families and friends. This shoot took place late August 2012. Note that due to a broken hard drive much of the original content was lost, but enough to help tell a story.  More to come.

Sharing since I work at both of these sites.  Enjoy the feedback from everywhere so please let me know.

SUDAN. Kordofan. The Nubas. Dinka and Nuer girls dressed for ceremonial dance. 1949. By George Rodger

This is truly a remarkable photograph.

W.E.B. DuBois with his graduating class in 1894.

Too many of us have squandered what he and our grandparents, and our parents worked for.
